As part of the Patient Experience of Care Learning and Action Network, Betsy Schwartz, Vice President and Yahaira Waters, MHFA Coordinator & Instructor for National Council for Behavioral Health presented Be the One to Make a Difference: Mental Health First Aid. Mental Health First Aid is the help offered to a person experiencing a mental health challenge, mental disorder or a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate help is received or until the crisis resolves. Mental Health First Aid can help with ESRD patients and providers to:
- Identify individuals experiencing emotional problems sooner
- Improve coordination with existing mental health supports and resources
- Inform individuals and their families of local supports available in their community
