CMS Releases 2020 Medicare Part D Final Rule

On May 16, CMS released the 2020 final rule for Medicare Part D, codifying existing policy with regard to protected classes of drugs including immunosuppressives, thereby not implementing proposed changes with potential harm for transplant patients. In its proposed rule the Agency discussed allowing broader use of prior authorization and step therapy for protected class drugs and excluding protected class drugs if they were from a single source supplier or were subject to price increases beyond a certain threshold.
